Why raft the Lower New River once when spring conditions make it possible to run it twice? This high-energy whitewater adventure delivers an entire day of waves, rapids, and adrenaline, with two separate runs through the Lower New River Gorge.
During the spring months of March through May, higher water levels transform the river. The current becomes faster, waves grow larger, and the rapids take on a whole new personality. These conditions create a rare opportunity to cover the Lower New River twice in one day, totaling approximately 16 miles of whitewater and more than 35 Class III–V rapids.
The day begins with check-in and gear fitting at the resort, where participants receive a helmet, paddle, and personal flotation device. From there, a shuttle takes the group to the river put-in. With a professional guide leading the way, the first run brings powerful currents, towering waves, and technical whitewater as the crew works together through the gorge.
After approximately eight miles, the New River Gorge Bridge marks the end of the first run. But the adventure is far from finished. After a quick return to the put-in, guests climb back aboard their raft for a second run down the river. By then, the team has found its rhythm, making the second trip an especially exciting ride.
A hot riverside lunch prepared by the guide provides a welcome break between runs.
The experience finishes beneath the impressive New River Gorge Bridge, offering a dramatic conclusion to an unforgettable day on the water. Designed for experienced rafters and adventure seekers ready for a challenge, this trip delivers some of the most exciting spring whitewater in West Virginia.
